CONGRATULATIONSCongratulations - and a BIG thank you to our driver, Graham Knott, who completed 30 years' service with us on 11 May!   Graham joined us almost straight from school, having only just passed his car test.   He made himself useful around the yard whilst we trained him up for his PCV test and has been making himself useful ever since!  He went on to become one of our top tour drivers, travelling all over the UK and Europe and gaining a well-deserved reputation for the kind and caring attention he gives to customers.  He's also a great help in the office when we are thinking up new tour ideas.  His next challenge is to beat Les's record of 40 years' with the firm!!

Graham has also just returned from our annual Isles of Scilly tour, with a suntan, after a fabulous week, echoed by the customer holiday questionnaire reports.  A number of people liked it so that much that they are planning to join us again next year and Sue is already taking provisional reservations for April 2018.  Give her a call if you are interested.

Great times were had by all last weekend 13 & 14 May on our 2 trips -  Saturday's Essex Heritage Road & Rail Tour with a ride on the Epping Ongar Railway and Sunday's Thames Cruise with an excellent guide, lovely weather and beautiful scenery! Lots of passengers rang in or emailed to say how much they enjoyed these trips with some wanting to go again next year!

Lots of our customers are planning a spring holiday!   This week's most popular holiday choices have included our June departures to Paignton and Scarborough and our July holiday to Weston-super-Mare.  If you are looking for a late break, then we're off to spectacular Snowdonia at the end of this month.    If you fancy getting away from it all after the forthcoming General Election, may we recommend our Irish holiday staying on the west coast at Bantry Bay?  Carl will take you on some lovely outings including a trip to the beautiful gardens on Garnish Island  and to see the historic signal station at Mizen Head.

Thank you so much for all your bookings from our  new Spring/Summer Out&About brochure - and we've just had another exceptionally busy week.  We've been taking quite a few bookings for our Whit week departures at the end of May and for our special offer departures in May.   Looking further ahead there's been a flurry of bookings for our 4th July trip to Derby, where the famous 'Weeping Window' display of ceramic poppies can be seen at the city's Silk Mill.   Our annual Thames Lunch Cruise & Houses of Parliament tour has been another popular choice in July. In August, we've been delighted to see lots of people book for Ipswich-On The Waterfront on the 17th as we had some fabulous reports of this trip in 2016. Derbyshire's Ecclesbourne Valley Railway on August 24th has also been popular.   Later in the year, our new October date for 42nd Street is proving a bit hit (much like the show!) and we've had lots of interest our new October half term trip to Disney on Ice in Birmingham.  (Lots of favourite Disney characters will be in the show including from Frozen, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid as well as Micky & Minnie of course)! You may also find it helpful to know that some of our Thursford Christmas Spectacular dates have only just a few seats remaining.

Jane & Angela have been to see An American in Paris at London's Dominion Theatre.  It's such a lovely show, so refreshing, with lovely singing and dancing, most especially if you love the grace and elegance of ballet.  We were also really impressed by the stage sets - so cleverly designed and, clearly, the critics agree with them that this is a must-see show!  So, don't miss the last few seats on our 7 June departure!  Jane has also been to see 42nd Street and was equally impressed - the tap dancing routines were fabulous, the stage sets and costumes were gorgeous and it's a really happy, feel-good show.  The reviews have been great and we are not at all surprised to see that bookings are already coming in for our new date for this show - Wed 25 Oct!

The last weekend of February may not have been a time of celebration for Welsh rugby fans, but it was definitely a great weekend for us – and how appropriate that we spent our annual Reunion Weekend in Wales!   Carl, Graham, Les, Sue, Jane & Chris had a fabulous weekend with almost 100 customers at the Metropole Hotel, in the spa town of Llandrindod Wells - see the photos on our Facebook page!   We had (lots of) good food, good fun, and best of all caught up with so many old friends as well as getting to know some new faces too.  Even a rainy day on Saturday couldn’t dampen our spirits!  We’d like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who joined us for the weekend and to those suppliers who helped to make it such a success, most especially everyone at the Metropole and the ‘ladies in red’ from Builth Wells who sang so beautifully.   We ended the weekend with a delicious lunch at the Hallmark Hotel at Stourport-on-Severn and - surprise, surprise - this is the venue for next year’s Reunion!  Sue is already taking provisional bookings (subject to confirmation when further details/pricing is available), so do please give us a call or email if you would like to join us?

HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh have been to ZSL Whipsnade Zoo to open a new elephant enclosures.  Our next trip to the UK's biggest zoo will be on Friday 2 June!

It's all about the splendid gardens at the Palace, the wildlife found there and the work involved in keeping the gardens pristine through the seasons! Come and see for yourself - there's still time to book for either 23 August and 6 September. Lots of the planting is sentimental to Her Majesty with trees planted by her father and other family members. Both of our visits will include the new 'Royal Gifts' exhibition (see below) in the palace which is a display of lots of official gifts to Her Majesty received from around the world during her long reign. (Alan also mentioned that all the waste from the Royal Mews Horses is used around the garden with excellent results)!! So why not see them for yourself if you book for .....

Visit the Mews with its historic carriages and you maybe lucky enough to see some of the lovely horses that are housed in these working stables as well as the fabulous state coaches, incluidng the Gold State Coach used in every cobronation sice George lV in 1821! Hereford Cathedral – Wed 31 May.  If you come with us on this visit to the historic cathedral, it gives you the chance to view the amazing, 13th century Mappa Mundi as well as the chained library where many ancient tomes are housed - including the 8th century Hereford Gospels.  The cathedral has long had a unique relationship with the SAS. The SAS Regimental Association has commissioned a memorial – a wonderful sculpture and stunning new stained glass window entitled ‘Ascension’ by John Main RA that are now in situ.

Mrs. Brown's Boys is back on our small screens!  Let us know ASAP if you want to see the new show 'Good Mourning Mrs Brown' at Nottingham Arena on Friday 9th June!

Wind in the Willows at the London Palladium - more stars have been announced!  Denise Welch and Gary Wilmot will be joining Rufus Hound in this new musical which will be opening at the end of June.  Don't miss our school holiday special on Wednesday 26 July.  It's great value at £59 pp and has a special reduced fare of £55 for children.

Derby – Tues 4 July If you missed the Poppies at the Tower – then here’s your chance to see them but, this time, on display in Derby. Derby, as a whole, played a vital part in production during the course of the First World War with Rolls-Royce developing the Eagle Engine at the request of the government to power allied aircraft.

A ‘Weeping Window’ of several thousand of the ceramic and hand made poppies, commemorating the First World War, may be seen ‘pouring’ from a high up window at Derby’s Silk Mill where, during the First World War, the Mill was divided into two businesses one grinding corn and the other making medical supplies, both integral to the British war effort.

If you missed them at the Tower then don’t miss this evocative and moving display at Derby.

Buckingham Palace announces new exhibition for Summer 2017 ‘Royal Gifts’

Each of our visits to the Buckingham Palace State Apartments will include this special exhibition within the admission price. It will relate the story of HM The Queen’s reign through a wide-ranging display of official gifts presented to Her Majesty during the past 65 years. With gifts representing every continent, including those from world leaders such as former US President Dwight D. Eisenhower, former South African President Nelson Mandela and President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China, the exhibition will present a spectacular and breath-taking display of craftsmanship from across the globe.

Choose from 15 & 23 August, 6 or 17 September. 15 August includes a scrumptious, champagne afternoon tea at the exclusive Waldorf Hilton after the Palace visit, 23 August & 6 September  include the popular guided garden tour after the State Apartments.

The Royal Collection contains the world's finest group of paintings, drawings and prints by Venice's most famous view-painter, Canaletto (1697-1768) and were bought by the young George III in 1762 from Canaletto's agent and dealer Joseph Smith, British Consul in Venice.

A new exhibition ‘The Art of Venice’, in the Queens Gallery, presents a spectacular selection of eighteenth-century Venetian art, with Canaletto's greatest works shown alongside paintings by his contemporaries.   For some wonderful views of Venice, book a seat on our 13th September day trip (which also includes a visit to the Royal Mews where you should be able to see the Diamond Jubilee Coach and the famous Windsor Grey horses) or, better still, why not join us on our 7 October tour to The Dolomites & Lake Garda, which includes a day out to magical Venice?
