Spend the day in Bakewell, the ‘capital’ of the Peak District and home to the famous Bakewell Pudding! 2000 years ago the Romans discovered the warm springs of Bakewell and it’s been attracting visitors ever since. Expect to find roaming wildfowl and charming cottages set amongst the winding, tranquil banks of the River Wye.

Monday is market day and Bakewell’s relaxed and friendly stalls have been welcoming shoppers since 1330! You’ll find fresh food, fashions, furnishings and everything inbetween at the largest market in the Derbyshire Dales with around 100 stalls. Take a walk along the river, passing the 14th century Gothic bridge (pictured), one of the oldest in the country. Wander through Bath Gardens which offer a peaceful spot after the buzz of the market. 15 minutes’ walk from the town centre, heading out along Coombs Road, you’ll find the start of the 8.5 mile Monsal Trail on which you can expect to find scenery, geology, wildlife and rail heritage as you pass through tunnels and over viaducts. Click for Visit Peak District's handy guide to Bakewell.

We’re due to arrive at 11:45 and depart at 16:45 at Bakewell Coach Park. There will be a 45 minute break at Notcutts Garden Centre in Nottingham en route. Got a question? Ask our friendly team.

You might also like York on 30 May, Saffron Walden on 11 June or Bury St Edmunds & Lavenham on 28 Aug.
