Step behind the scenes at Cromford Mills on a guided tour with exclusive access to the First Mill, not open to general visitors. The tour includes the Arkwright Experience 3D, where you’ll meet Sir Richard Arkwright through immersive projection inside the original factory. Discover how these pioneering mills shaped new ways of working and helped change the modern world. This year marks several important milestones at Cromford: 250 years of the Second Mill, the building that transformed the cotton industry and the world. 25 years of the UNESCO Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site: recognising a landscape where industry, community and innovation came together. 250 years of the pioneering housing on North Street, one of the world’s first industrial villages. Find out more.
There's free time to enjoy the 19th century spa town of Matlock before we visit Cromford Mills. Crown Square offers a great choice of independent shops, cafés and pubs, and award-winning Hall Leys Park is well worth a wander, surrounded by towering green trees and full of summer colour, with Riber Castle as your backdrop.
Includes free time in Matlock, a guided tour and free time at Cromford Mills, return travel and a reserved coach seat. The coach is due to arrive in Matlock at 12:00 and depart at 14:00 (setting down and picking up at Railway Station Car Park). At 14:00 we will depart for Cromford Mills, arriving at 14:20 ready for our guided tour. We will depart for home at 17:00. There will be a 45 minute comfort stop at Notcutts Nottingham on the outward journey only. Cromford Mills is fully accessible but due to the historic nature of the site some surfaces may be uneven.
