Pause in the vibrant, yet deeply historical, Cathedral city of Lichfield en route to the hotel. It’s donation entry to the ancient Cathedral which hides a fascinating 1,300 year history, free entry to the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum which holds 8,000 objects relating to the author of the English Dictionary and just a small entry fee gives you access to Erasmus Darwin House where collections include his hand written notes and a rare fossilised fern! We’re due to arrive at the hotel mid-afternoon where you’ll be greeted with a refreshing tea/coffee and time to enjoy the leisure facilities before dinner this evening, with a glass of wine included.
Friday
Blast into outer space this morning at Jodrell Bank, home to the instantly recognisable Lovell Telescope. Discover the ground-breaking scientific discoveries made at this UNESCO World Heritage Site during a self-guided visit with the chance to watch an immersive short film in the Space Dome telling you all about the site’s fascinating history. We’ve included a soup and bread lunch with a choice of tea/coffee before we head from black hole to bunker at Stockport Air Raid Shelters. Join an expert guide on a one hour tour through the restored tunnels and discover what life was like for up to 6,500 people who took cover in this mile long labyrinth as the fearful siren sounded. Back to the hotel, where you may choose to warm up in the sauna and steam room before dinner. Note – tunnels have natural sandstone flooring which can be uneven, four steps at the start but step free access available.

After check out we plan to take the famously scenic Cat & Fiddle Road through the Peak District National Park to the beautiful spa town of Buxton. Expect a warm welcome from the team at The Buxton Crescent Experience where we’ve arranged a 90-minute guided tour through nine bespoke rooms inside this eye-catching Grade-I listed building. Learn all about the famous faces that have visited the town in the hope of miracle cures and the origins of this famous water source - make sure to fill your water bottle at the Lion’s Head Well at the end of your tour, you’ll head home feeling fully refreshed and revitalised!
