800 square miles of beautiful honey-coloured stone buildings, rolling green hills and lively yet quaint market towns await on this spring tour through the glorious Cotswolds countryside. Expect a vibrant buzz in Cheltenham, a sense of Royalty in Tetbury and a feeling of tradition in Broadway and Stow-on-the-Wold. Start planning your free time in these beautiful towns with the official Cotswolds guide.

Could there be a more relaxing way to watch Cotswold scenery roll by than on a heritage steam train on board the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway? We’ve included tickets for the 14 mile stretch between Cheltenham and Broadway, passing sleepy hamlets and offering views all the way to the Malvern Hills.

Reconnect with nature at Slimbridge Wetland Centre where seasonal wildlife thrives, their springtime star species include common cranes, kingfishers, avocets and oystercatchers. Use the map to find your quiet hide location and don’t forget to pack your binoculars. Create your own route through the spring blossom at Westonbirt Arboretum with over 17 miles of hard and grassy paths to choose from. Download the handy map and perhaps treat yourself to something tasty from The Pantry grab-and-go kiosk whilst you’re here. Enjoy even more of the outdoors at Painswick Rococo Garden, the UK's only complete surviving garden of this flamboyant period.

The GWSR and WWT Slimbridge are winners of a 2023 Travellers’ Choice Award from Tripadvisor – this is only awarded to attractions that are ranked within the top 10% and consistently earn great visitor reviews!

We always recommend taking out adequate holiday insurance, that's why we’ve partnered with SunWorld holiday insurance who can offer single or annual multi-trip cover. Get your free custom quote.

Monday

Take a scenic drive, on Easter Monday, through the Cotswolds, pausing in Shakespeare’s riverside of Stratford-upon-Avon enroute. Check in with tea/coffee on arrival.

Tuesday

Sightsee in the spa town of Cheltenham before boarding the Gloucester-Warwickshire Railway for a nostalgic journey through the Cotswold countryside. Disembark at Toddington where there’s time to pop into the café and see the museum memorabilia before continuing to Stow-on-the-Wold. This charming market town is the highest in the Cotswolds at 800ft above sea level, with an impressive market square full of delightful places to shop and eat.

Wednesday

Spend the morning amongst incredible nature at WWT Slimbridge, by the Severn Estuary. In spring, new arrivals like swallows and house martins join the flock and listen out for the songs of the chiffchaffs, reed warblers and the distinctive call of the cuckoo, too. This afternoon, visit the UK’s only complete surviving Rococo Garden at Painswick. Designed as the owner’s playground in the 1700s with flamboyance at its core. In April, over 9,000 bulbs spring into life and bluebells carpet the woodland.

Thursday

Head south to spend time in Tetbury, an AONB that’s home to HRH King Charles III and full of boutique shops and great food. This afternoon, visit one of the most mature and extraordinary arboretums in the world. Westonbirt has its roots in the Victorian plant collecting craze boasting 2,500 tree species from around the world. Adventure through the canopy on the site’s award-winning and fully accessible Treetop Walkway.

Friday

An 09:45 departure allows time to sightsee amongst the honey- coloured buildings, filled with tea rooms and shops, at Broadway. Continue through Worcestershire countryside to The Valley Evesham, home to 25 designer shops and an extensive garden centre where we’ve arranged a two-course lunch with tea/coffee before heading home.
