Monday

Check in to your stylish city hotel.

Tuesday

Spend the day in the historic market town of Barnard Castle, which takes its name from the 12th century fortress around which it grew. Perhaps explore this English Heritage site overlooking the Tees Gorge or wander amongst the charming independent shops and local eateries. We’ve included a visit to the highly impressive Bowes Museum, housed in a Grade I Listed French-style château and holding a treasured collection of fashion, furniture and fine art, including the famous musical Silver Swan.

Wednesday

Spend the day, at leisure, in the beautiful Cathedral city of Durham. Your hotel is within 15 minutes’ walk of the Castle and Cathedral (designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site) that features ‘Open Treasure’ - a world-class attraction offering visitors the chance to get up close to ancient artefacts. You’ll find a great choice of riverfront bars, restaurants, cafés and boutiques as you wander through the city or perhaps head further afield and follow a scenic Riverside Walk.

Thursday

Today we’ll visit Beamish – a world-famous open-air museum guiding you through life in the NE from the 1820's to the 1950's. Explore a 1900's town and colliery, take a look inside a pit village cottage, ride the colourful, heritage trams and experience wartime life on a 1940's farm. There’s a full days’ worth of discovery at Beamish along with a fitting choice of eateries including a Tea Room, chip shop and pub.

Friday

We’ll leave just after breakfast with time to stop in Richmond where a light buffet lunch is included after our fascinating visit to The Green Howards Museum. This treasured collection documents the history of this honoured Regiment, ensuring that the human story is told through each artefact. Friendly team members and volunteers will be on hand to ensure you get the most out of your visit, answering questions and pointing out objects of particular interest.
