Savour the delights of Harrogate, where you can indulge in an antiques hunt, lunch at the famous Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms, stroll through the Valley Gardens and enjoy the independent boutiques that line the streets and arcades. With its handsome historic buildings and verdant gardens, it’s one of Yorkshire's most elegant destinations and, on top of that, it’s surrounded by the spectacular countryside that so many of us have enjoyed viewing on the recent revival of All Creatures Great & Small.
Read our 2021 customer comments: "Meals and restaurant staff first class, reception staff very helpful and informative.", "Wonderful holiday, driver and hotel great." and "All tours were good, it was a varied programme."
The World of James Herriot and RHS Harlow Carr are winners of a 2023 Travellers’ Choice Award from Tripadvisor – this is only awarded to attractions that are ranked within the top 10% and consistently earn great visitor reviews!
We always recommend taking out adequate holiday insurance, that's why we’ve partnered with SunWorld holiday insurance who can offer single or annual multi-trip cover. Get your free custom quote.

Monday
To Harrogate, where a warm Yorkshire welcome awaits with tea or coffee on arrival at the impressive Majestic Hotel.
Tuesday
Celebrate Yorkshire’s most famous vet at the World of James Herriot, the fully restored site of his original 1940s home and veterinary practice (known in his books as Skeldale House), in Thirsk. Then, soak up the scenery as we drive through the Dales to Grassington, this traditional market town was transformed into Darrowby during the recent re-make of 'All Creatures Great and Small'.
Wednesday
Spend the day at leisure in Harrogate or take the coach to nearby RHS Harlow Carr to wander amongst The Kitchen Garden, Woodland Walks, Alpine House, Lakeside Gardens and Rock Garden, to name but a few. Take the coach both ways or maybe stroll back – it’s a lovely walk through the Pine Woods back to Harrogate Valley Gardens, taking about an hour at a leisurely pace.
Thursday
Spend time in the riverside town of Leyburn, full of antiques, an inspiring art gallery selling pieces to take home and plenty of pubs around the cobbled town square. Continue to Hawes, home of Wensleydale Cheese – don’t miss the gift shop on Gayle Lane! Visit the Dales Countryside Museum, in Hawes, for a fascinating glimpse into Dales life – from Bronze Age spearheads to Viking gold! Take the scenic route back to the hotel via the Ribble Valley and over the moors.
Friday
Visit to 700-year-old Ripley Castle – an impressive, turreted fortress with a military and political past. Uncover tales of plague, persecution and revolution as you make your way through the oversized rooms. Take time to wander in the Walled Gardens and amongst the large herbaceous borders, perhaps circle the lake or spot rare collections in the Kitchen Gardens, too. Tuck into a soup and sandwich lunch with tea/coffee before returning home.
