Monday
Travel along the peaceful shores of Coniston Water and Thirlmere to the small market town of Keswick, where the impressive 19th century Moot Hall (now home to the TIC) dominates the bustling Market Square. The lively Main Street is lined with thriving local shops and big brands, with little side streets luring you in with fresh bakes and coffee. Back on the coach we’ll pass the western end of Ullswater before ascending the famous Kirkstone Pass, reaching an altitude of 1489ft at its highest point! A relaxing cruise on Lake Windermere from Bowness to Lakeside will round off your summers’ day nicely.
Tuesday
Drive along the coast and fells of West Cumbria to board the scenic Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, affectionately known as ‘La’al Ratty’. Originally built in 1873, it’s one of the oldest and longest narrow-gauge railways in the country. Finish the day in the impressive surroundings of Muncaster Castle. Feel luxurious as you wander within the sumptuous State Rooms and ancient Great Hall of this lived-in family home, then enjoy breathtaking Lakeland views from the historic gardens.
Wednesday
Visit the 16th century home of the Cavendish family, Holker Hall. The immaculate gardens are planted to offer year-round inspiration – the romantic Sunken Garden boasts views of the fells and summer flowering trees are beginning to bloom. The award-winning gardens won BBC Countryfile Garden of the Year 2016 and are full of colour at this time of year. Finish the day by the sea at Grange-Over-Sands, at the tip of the Cartmel Peninsula, betwixt the mountains and sea.
