Spend the day in Bakewell, the ‘capital’ of the Peak District and home to the famous Bakewell Pudding! 2000 years ago the Romans discovered the warm springs of Bakewell and it’s been attracting visitors ever since. Expect to find roaming wildfowl and charming cottages set amongst the winding, tranquil banks of the River Wye.
Monday is market day and Bakewell’s relaxed and friendly stalls have been welcoming shoppers since 1330! You’ll find fresh food, fashions, furnishings and everything inbetween at the largest market in the Derbyshire Dales with around 100 stalls. Take a walk along the river, passing the 14th century Gothic bridge (pictured), one of the oldest in the country or wander through Bath Gardens which offer a peaceful spot after the buzz of the market.
We've partnered with Bakewell Old House Museum who are offering Shaws' customers a free guide (worth £1.50) and a 50p admission discount on production of your Shaws' coach ticket, it's your last chance to see their 2024 exhibition - Treasured Quilts: Warmth and Wealth. This award-winning museum sits inside a beautiful Tudor building and explores stories of previous inhabitants and owners including Sir Richard Arkwright (entry fee approx. £6).
We’re due to arrive at 11:45 and depart at 16:45 from Bakewell Coach Park. There will be a 45 minute break at Notcutts Garden Centre in Nottingham en route. Click for Visit Peak District's handy guide to Bakewell.
