Why visit Sussex? Eastbourne is simply the classic British seaside that we've known and loved since the Victorians made holidaying a favourite pastime. It’s charming, relaxed, and feels authentic. Enjoy views over the English Channel as crashing wintery waves tumble in and look towards Beachy Head's dramatic white cliffs for memorable coastal views. Eastbourne's Victorian architecture contrasts awesomely with the Towner Eastbourne gallery - a must-visit, free-to-enter attraction. A stay at The Lansdowne is guaranteed to get you in the festive spirit with their welcoming Christmas package, this privately run hotel has been a favourite with Shaws' customers for many years.
Why visit with us? In 2024 99% of our holiday customers said they would book again and 99% also said they would recommend us to a friend. Shaws Coaches has a strong reputation for a dependable service, with a proven track record for punctuality and professionalism.
What do our customers say? "Could not fault any aspect of the hotel, superb" • "Very different trips and we have gained knowledge to tell our family and friends" • "Interesting interactive displays at the Observatory" • "Wasn't sure about the observatory but loved it!" • In 2024 Shaws’ customers rated The Lansdowne Hotel 4/5 based on its food & drink, staff & service and bedroom comfort.

Spend the morning in Sussex’s liveliest city – Brighton. 18th century party animal George IV fell in love with Brighton and made it a magnet for visitors, it remains as popular to this day. Sightsee amongst iconic landmarks including the Royal Pavilion’s exotic architecture (entry not included) and the 1,772ft long Palace Pier, or head to The Lanes for quirky shopping in narrow alleys and hidden squares. This afternoon, visit the growing community of local artisans at the South Downs Heritage Centre. Find store cupboard supplies from the best local producers in the Food Hall, home grown plants in the nursery and unique artefacts in The Museum of Gardening. Indulge in an early Christmas dinner at the hotel tonight followed by live entertainment.
Wednesday
Enjoy a day at leisure in Eastbourne. Perhaps follow the Promenade Art Trail and discover 70 contemporary pieces that reflect the area’s unique landscape (it starts in the hotel bar, with more pieces to be found in six other of the resort’s hotels). Just behind the hotel is Towner Eastbourne – a free-to-enter gallery holding over 5,000 pieces of intriguing modern British and international contemporary art. Finish a restful day with live entertainment at the hotel tonight!
Thursday
Spend the morning on the ancient medieval streets of Rye with its cobbled streets and relaxed atmosphere, it’s market day today with friendly traders selling everything from sweets to shoes.
