Monday

After being collected from home, get comfy in your reserved, executive class seat as you make your way to England’s southwest coast. Check in to your 3* hotel with tea/coffee awaiting on arrival, before dinner this evening.

Tuesday

Spend a summer morning at leisure on the English Riviera, perhaps take a wander along Paignton’s long stretch of beautiful and easily accessible beachfront, with a traditional promenade and 240m Victorian pier. A twenty-minute walk through town will take you to the public gardens at Oldway Mansion – these grade II heritage gardens are maintained by volunteers and full of colour in summer. Spend the afternoon amongst Georgian treasures at Saltram House, overlooking the River Plym within a rolling 18th-century landscape. Go celebrity ‘tree’ spotting along Lime Avenue – can you find the English oak used in Sense & Sensibility? A visit to the ‘Great Room’ is a must – here you can see one of the country’s most complete Robert Adam rooms dating back to 1772.

Wednesday

All aboard for one of the finest steam train journeys in the country, from Paignton to Kingswear, along the coast of Torbay and through beautiful Devonshire countryside. At Kingswear take the traditional foot passenger ferry across the River Dart before boarding a glorious river boat for a 60 minute circular estuary cruise. Pass castles, grand naval buildings and the home of late Dame Agatha Christie, look out for seals, dolphins and kingfishers along the way! Enjoy free time in Dartmouth before returning to Paignton in the same unique style in which you arrived.

Thursday

Soak up the buzz of Brixham this morning as you enjoy free time in this beautiful fishing town. A stroll along the harbour walls are a must, perhaps pausing for a take away coffee or ice cream as you go? Sit and watch the heritage trawlers busy at work and the colourful houses glistening in the summer sun on the hillside. Back to Paignton for an afternoon of relaxation, make use of the hotel pool or take the level walk to the seafront for one final glimpse of the Riviera.
