Monday
Check in to your hotel, just minutes from the seafront.
Tuesday
Enjoy a leisurely start before spending a couple of hours in the charming and beautifully preserved medieval village of Dunster. Quaint and colourful ancient buildings line the streets, full of tempting tea rooms and unique independents. Drive through rural Somerset and board the West Somerset Railway at Bishop’s Lydeard, making your way back to Minehead in style as you steam through 20 miles of coast and country on this beautifully preserved line.
Wednesday
Enjoy a morning at leisure in Minehead, this beautiful bay is known as the "Gateway to Exmoor" and is the start point for 630 miles of stunning scenery along the South West Coastal Path. Look out for the impressive bronze monument on the promenade which marks the beginning and perhaps tackle a small section of it? Spend the afternoon amongst 19th-century parkland and grand Gothic Revival architecture at Knightshayes Court (NT). This country house is a rare example of William Burges’ lavish designs with intricately decorated walls and ceilings throughout – look out for stone carvings of the seven deadly sins! There’s over 1200 plant species unique to Knightshayes in the extensive gardens and the ever-changing displays are full of seasonal colour.
Thursday
Take the spectacular coastal route over Porlock Hill to the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth. These two Devonshire beauty spots are connected by the highest and steepest totally water powered railway in the world (return ride approx. £7.50), but can you remember which is at the cliff top and which is at the harbour beneath? Continue through beautiful scenery to the popular coastal resort at Ilfracombe with its pretty harbour and pastel-coloured houses, backed by dramatic cliffs. Take the scenic route through Exmoor National Park back to the hotel.
