Monday

Cross The Solent with tea/coffee on arrival at the hotel.

Tuesday

Take a summer sailing around the yachting capital of the UK this morning during a 35 minute cruise from Cowes Harbour. Soak up views of the Royal Yacht Squadron with live commentary throughout. There’s free time to enjoy the shops, galleries and seafront in Cowes before spending the afternoon at Queen Victoria’s lavish ‘holiday home’, Osborne House (EH). The sumptuous furnishings and immaculate gardens give a glimpse into the Royal Family’s extravagant lifestyle. Gain a sense of colonial history in the State Rooms, imagine family time on the private beach and enjoy a riot of colour in the Italianate gardens.

Wednesday

Experience the golden age of travel on the IOW Steam Railway this morning. Pass through unspoilt countryside and ancient woodland in beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages before disembarking and uncovering 150 years of railway history at Havenstreet’s restored 1940s station. Enjoy a free afternoon by the sea in Ryde, just five minutes’ walk up the hill is The Museum of Ryde (small entry fee) - home to the now banned Donald McGill postcards!

Thursday

Spend time in the pretty seaside resort of Ventnor - loved by the likes of Dickens and Churchill for its timeless charm. Note: There is a steep walk down to the beach from the town. This afternoon, see Ventnor Botanic Garden at the height of summer! The hot and humid Temperate House will transport you to a rainforest paradise complete with a waterfall and Giant Waterlilies. You’ll find some lovely art exhibitions and an interesting heritage centre too.
