Why visit Belfast? Northern Ireland is one of the best road-trip destinations on the British Isles. Distances are short, roads are scenic, and you’re constantly stumbling onto viewpoints you didn’t plan to see. From the crashing waves at the Giant's Causeway to the serene waters of Strangford Lough, and everything in between. The region's history is intense, complicated, and visible everywhere — from the city murals to the regenerated waterfront around Titanic Belfast. The people are famously funny, expect a warm welcome in any pub or cafe you choose to wander in to.

Sunday
Check in at one of our favourite hotels, the Holiday Inn Dumfries, for a peaceful night’s sleep before setting sail tomorrow.
Monday
Leave Cairnryan behind and cross the Irish Sea on the mid morning ferry. Dock in Belfast and head to your home for the next four nights - La Mon Hotel & Country Club, where tea/coffee and shortbread is waiting for you on arrival.
Tuesday
Get to know the historic, cultural capital this morning with a step on guided coach tour of Belfast. Marvel at the baroque beauty of City Hall, the elegant Palm House at the Botanic Gardens, the sleek waterfront and the intricate architecture of Queen’s University. The tour lasts around 1.5 hours, leaving free time over lunch to explore the city at leisure - will you be popping to the famous Crown Liquor Saloon? Take the short coach transfer to Titanic Belfast, an absolute must-visit when in this spirited city - the place where it all began. The Titanic Experience is the world’s most authentic retelling of this devastating story - discover over ten interactive galleries during a self-guided tour that takes you from the shipyard to the sinking, through personal recounts and original artefacts (SS Nomadic not included).
Wednesday
Downpatrick is the burial place of Saint Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland, and no visit would be complete without pausing at the St Patrick Visitor Centre. Through an immersive IMAX Cinema production and a guided tour, you’ll go on a journey from Patrick’s adventures in Roman Britain to his escape from slavery. There’s free time to visit the shop, café and explore the town - perhaps walk up the hill to Down Cathedral or the Down County Museum (both free entry)? From here, take the ferry across the narrow entrance to Strangford Lough and follow the water’s edge to Mount Stewart House & Gardens (NT). Step straight into the 1920s as you wander through the elegant rooms of this neo-classical house, bursting with stories and treasures. Outside, spot mythological creatures sculpted into the Shamrock Garden’s topiary, smell sweet scents in the restored Rose Garden and marvel at the decorative well-head purchased from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 1926! Note: A local coach company will be used today.
Thursday
Take the Antrim Coast Road, pausing at Carnlough, to the legendary Giant’s Causeway (NT). This iconic World Heritage Site is made up of over 40,000 basalt columns, formed an unbelievable 60 million years ago! Unlock the secrets of this unique landscape through an interactive exhibition inside the award-winning visitor centre and walk in the shadow of giants as you step foot on this treasured landmark with the help of an award-winning story telling team. There are shuttles down to the stones if you can’t make the walk (approx. £1, payable on the day).
