Monday
Many of the formal gardens that surround the peaceful lake at Burnby Hall were created or restored within the last 10 years and the Hardy Water Lillies are a beautiful sight in summer. The Stewart Museum houses unique items gathered by explorer Major Percy Stewart during his eight world tours in the early 1900s! Visit here before checking in at your hotel, just outside of York.
Tuesday
Start your day amongst the grandeur of Castle Howard. This Baroque stately home is brimming with world-renowned collections, gathered by the Howard family over eight generations. The beautiful grounds feature an enchanting Woodland Garden with plants from around the world and a manicured 18th century Walled Garden. Finish the day wandering within York’s ancient city walls where a saunter down the cobbled Shambles is a must - the overhanging medieval timber buildings are full of cheerful cafés and quirky boutiques.
Wednesday
Take a scenic drive through the delightful Yorkshire Dales, pausing in the charming village of Grassington before arriving in Skipton. Wander through the market stalls to the top of the High Street and marvel at one of the best-preserved medieval castles in England before a one hour cruise along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, with amusing commentary along the way.
Thursday
Scampston Estate is tradition with a twist! Discover the secrets of this fine Regency country house with a guided tour through the fine art and furniture inside this beloved family home, you’ll even be welcomed by the butler! Outside, the internationally acclaimed Walled Garden is quite unique - set inside 18th century walls with a 21st century design! Finish the day by the sea in Whitby - wander along one of the piers or peruse the local shops in the quaint alleyways.
Friday
Time to head home, pausing at Cusworth Hall, Museum & Park where you’ll discover the daily lives of people from Doncaster from the 18th century to the present day.
